Nono's Classic Strawberry Shortcake - Berry Creamy!
Here's a quick blog post on Nono's Classic Strawberry Shortcake which we had for my mom's birthday celebration at home. We have been craving for some strawberry shortcake ever since I've brought home a portion of the cake from one of the culinary classes I attended. Hence, we all decided to have this cake for our mom's special day!
As a trivia, although I'm not sure how to confirm this, my sister told me that Classic Confections and Nono's are related. I did a quick check on the menu, and the cakes do have some similarities with them. It was great to heart because I've been a fan of Classic Confections when it was still in Greenbelt 5.
Anyway, here it is -- Sylvia's Strawberry Shortcake 8" (P1,695). First thing I noticed when we picked up the cake from the store was the heaviness of the box, which is how shortcakes should be due to layers of butter frosting. In that alone, my confidence about the cake shot up, and thankfully that expectation was soon met when we feasted on the cake.
The cake's frosting was rightly buttery with bits of strawberry already blended into it. This made the overall taste of the frosting well-balanced with the right fruity sweetness. The layers of sponge cake in-between were soft and delicate which allows you to focus on the goodness of the strawberries. Pricey, yes, but it was good !Thumbs up.
My overall verdict is generally above neutral. The cake is undoubtedly good, but I find it steeply priced. Well, I know strawberries are expensive nowadays, and there was a generous amount of it in the cake. Not complaining there. It's just that this cake is indeed built for occasion, and that might really sting the budget a bit. However, other than that, I'll say this is a fantastic strawberry shortcake!
