Famous Egg Tarts in Binondo by Lord Stow's Bakery
After years of living in Binondo and countless food trips made there, I can now say with certainty that Lord Stow's Bakery - home of the famous Macau egg tarts, survives the test of time, and deems to be one of the great places to discover and have desserts in whenever you find yourself in Manila's Chinatown.
Note: I first created this post last 2014, and it has now been more than a decade since then. Lord Stow's egg tarts remain to be relevant and famous. That has to mean something, right?

Lord Stow's Bakery boasts its "best-tasting" egg tarts which came all the way from Macau. We had this as our final stop during our food crawl because we needed to end our Binondo Food Trip P250-Challenge (way back 2014) with a dessert. Back then, Lord Stow already made waves for foodies because I can remember waiting for a queue to get inside.

Lord Stow's limited seating capacity
When we went inside, I realized that it was almost a bad idea choosing this place because there was no way for our food trip group, consisting of 14 people, to fit inside the limited space of the store. From my estimate, seating capacity at Lord Stow's can only accommodate 6-7 people at a time. However, we still decided to give it a go through a compromise - some of us will stay outside the store (baked under the afternoon heat) while some will go in to buy boxes of the egg tarts.

Possibly the best egg tart in Manila
As mentioned in my earlier posts, Lord Stow's Egg Tart is the best I've tasted so far! The tart is tenderly creamy that creates a melt in your mouth sensation, and pastry nestling the filling is appropriately crisp. You will definitely savor each moment munching it in! It is actually reminiscent of the new emerging favorite, Bakehouse (from Hong Kong).
Food Suggestion: One of my food trip buddies that tagged along with me suggested putting the egg tarts inside the refrigerator. This will give a different texture and flavor at the same time to the tarts. He said that he preferred them this way. However, personally, I like it fresh and warm.
I would say that this is really worth trying! Go check it out by including it in your food trip list! By the way, if you are planning to have a food crawl in Binondo, please read my latest article - Binondo Food Crawl (2025 Edition).
