Learning Thai Book for Beginners by Benjawan Becker

Sawatdee Khrap!

I'm really excited to share with you that our friend Phoom from Thailand sent Lance and I a package containing books for learning Thai! It arrived in Manila last March 11, 2013 (as indicated in the online tracker) and I was able to get this in March 21, 2013 (2 days after I received the Claiming Card). Now, this is how the package looks like:

Fresh from post office: Package from Thailand!
Nice huh? And interesting Thai writings! :)

Oh, now that I mentioned it, my mom and dad were the ones who got the package from the post office, and I don't know if this was necessary but the people there asked permission from my mom and dad to open it up. (Does it look suspicious? Well, it isn't for me. And don't they have a scanner already?) Plus, they requested a P40 fee which I don't know if it was legit. Can you tell me if it is?

Moving on, I got pretty excited seeing the package, much more opening the box up! You should have seen how I reacted. #harhar

Now, are you ready to see what's inside? Well, here are the books as well as the audio cd:

Like I mentioned before in my post back in 2012 (Thai Craze, Music and Etc.), I suddenly developed a liking towards Thai culture and the language. That's why I really felt happy that I got this book!

I was just able to browse through it (since I still don't have a time to really read through it), but at first glance, it really looks very though! But, I consider this as a challenge! Hopefully, by the end of this year, I will be able to read this book once . (Yes, learning a language is really though, you can't just read it once and voila, you already know how to speak). I know this because, even though I am already half-way through my Spanish Beginner Book (I need to go back chapters to chapters in order to really concretize my learning).

Cheers for this challenge! Here's for a better me! :)

How about you? Will you share to us what language you want to learn?

PS: Thanks Phoom for the book, we surely appreciate this!

  1. that's a great idea! been wanting to learn how to read or speak Thai too but it looks tough to me since their letters are unique. i hope you write updates about the same topic in the future or maybe upload a vid featuring you speaking Thai. :) good luck with your new challenge!

    1. Thanks Happy Philippines! Great advocacy for the website by the way. And thanks for the ideas, I think I may actually do these in the future. :)

  2. Hi there, was wondering if you have any progress on your Thai learning journey with this book? If you could also update a page or two from the book, it would be good :)
Am considering to embark on a journey to learn Thai, but am still contemplating on which book to start with :)

    1. Sadly, I was prioritizing on other things that's why I still am not able to go through this. What I did was to browse through it, and read through some.I find this great because it teaches you how to write Basic Thai first which is uncommon for this kind of text books. As mentioned by the author, learning how to write in Thai will facilitate faster learning how to speak faster. I promise to give updates once I start embarking and prioritizing this task learning Thai. Thanks!
