Hungry Homies - my top 1 pick as the best burger in Metro Manila!
When it comes to burgers, people often seek out the juiciest, most flavorful ones they can find, and if you happen to be in the Makati area, or willing to be there in search for a burger that will satisfy your cravings, I recommend to you Hungry Homies. This burger joint has been serving up delicious burgers in the area for some time now, and it's no surprise why they're a favorite among locals. In this blog post, we'll be taking a closer look at Hungry Homies and why their burgers are worth visiting and trying!
🍽️Origin of Hungry Homies
Hungry Homies was founded during the quarantine days by a group of friends who shared a passion for food, particularly burgers. They wanted to create a place where people could enjoy simple yet satisfying burgers that were made with quality ingredients. Their menu is straightforward, with only a few burger options available, but each one is carefully crafted to perfection.
When we entered the restaurant, there was a retro-feel in its relatively tiny interior. The elements of red embedded in the design along with bar stools all contribute to this. My heart was just so happy because I always appreciate restaurants who put a lot of effort in making a cohesive concept that translates to the actual feeling when you are in the place.
🍔Down to Basics: 3 Burgers in Hungry Homies
I looked up at the menu shortly upon entering the restaurant, and I was surprised to see a very lean menu staring back at me. There were just 3 burgers to choose from, and the options for the sides are also limited. This actually further heightened my expectations knowing that they only have few dishes to master, and *spoiler alert*, those expectations were met!
To further compliment your burger experience here in Hungry Homies, you may try their Cheese Friends Fries (P150). Very straightforward, yet good. If you like a lightly soggy fries (from the drizzle of cheese sauce), you'll definitely enjoy this one. Otherwise, skip, and go for the regular one instead.
If you want something out of your usual burger, try the Run BMC (P350). It's made with the same beef patty, but with added pickle chips and mango-wood smoked bacon, and chipotle BBQ mayo which give it its unique character. What makes the flavor more unraveling is that there is shitake mushrooms that give it a combination of reinforcing flavors. Highly recommended!
What makes the burgers of Hungry Homies special?
What sets Hungry Homies' burgers apart is the way they're cooked. The patties are grilled to perfection, resulting in a lightly crisp layer followed by a juicy and flavorful core that's hard to resist. Their signature cali-style burger, the Hypebeef (P300), is made with a beef patty, caramelized onions, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, American cheese, and their special Hungry Homies secret sauce. It's a classic combination that never fails to hit the spot.Hypebeef - Classic Cali-Style Cheeseburger
Run BMC - Shitake mushroom with smoky creamy tang from the chipotle BBQ mayo

Purist - combined elements of the Run BMC and Hypebeef yet still emerging with its own unique characteristic
If you are torn between the classic cheeseburger and the Run BMC, you may opt for what I call as the merger between these two, the Purist (P300). Somehow it shares characteristics of the first two burgers. From the Hypebeef, it got the fried onion element. From the Run BMC, it got the pickle chips and mayo-based sauce. However, instead of chipotle, it features mayo-mustard dressing. What's mystifying here is although it borrows elements from the first two burgers, it still has a character of its own!
Hungry Homies may still be considered a small burger joint, but they pack a big punch with their burgers. Their focus on quality ingredients and simple yet flavorful combinations make them stand out from the rest. Hence, if you're in the Makati area and craving a burger, give Hungry Homies a try. You won't be disappointed!
