Scout's Honor in Robinsons Manila - More than Just Cookies!

Scout's Honor in Robinsons Place Manila

Scout's Honor first captivated my palate with its indulgent cookies and milk. I can vividly remember the moment they touched my lips back when I had them in Hole-in-the-Wall (read more). This memory then got triggered when I saw the new branch of Scout Honor in Robinson's Place Manila. Then, I found out that this particular branch serves food. All the more I got excited.

The interior has a limited seating capacity. To my estimate, it can sit around 16 people at a time, but considering that there are just about 5 tables. That number may dwindle to 8. Despite the relatively small space of Scout's Honor the ambiance has this adorable appeal that I find both comforting and homey. If only the room temperature can be improved a bit, it will definitely pull up the experience.

When it comes to dishes, Scout's Honor has a lean menu focusing on sandwiches, breakfast plates and pasta. Of course, their bestselling cookies and milk are available as well, but since I am already confident about their sweet treats, I decided to just explore their savory dishes which unfortunately fared just 'okay'.

For this visit, we had one dish each. One pasta. One buttermilk chicken and 2 burgers.

The Buttermilk Chicken (2 pcs for P245) was stupendous! It was playfully crunchy on the outside while juicy in the inside. The taste also happened to be skin-deep which left us impressed. The overall feel reminded us of Kettle's own version of Buttermilk Chicken (see more).

The burgers caught us by surprised as it gave us a unique burger experience. The patty gave the best of both worlds: meatball (i.e. juiciness and plumpness) and a burger (i.e. grilled aroma and flavor). There was no prime difference between the two burgers we ordered, except for the added ingredients, of course. Needless to say, both were excellent.

Cream Cheese Bacon Carbonara of Scout's Honor

Last and potentially the least was the Cream Cheese Bacon Carbonara (P250) which got me hyped up when I saw the words 'cream cheese'. Unfortunately, the taste was very far off. Rather, it had this milky taste coming from evap milk (just a guess) mixed into the sauce. However, I know that some are into this kind of carbonara. In fact, my brother found it okay. Hence, I leave it up to you whether to try it or not.

Pasta is a bit of a no-no
Considering these four dishes alone, the taste was somehow 4 out of 5. However, my next visit dragged this down to 3 out of 5. Just 3 days after the initial visit, my younger brother and I ended up in the mall, so I felt the urge to do a follow up and check whether they can redeem my previous pasta experience. It turned out to be a major flop.

Roasted Garlic and Mushroom Fusilli of Scout's Honor

The Roasted Garlic and Mushroom Fusilli (P275) was too salty that it stung the buds. It was for me a total disaster and showed lack of caution on the part of the chef. Maybe this was an isolated case, but it really killed our appetite.

Creamy Pesto with Grilled Chicken of Scout's Honor

The Creamy Pesto with Grilled Chicken (P275) was a lifesaver but not enough to totally turn around the experience. Also, it was difficult to fully appreciate the dish considering that our buds were burnt up by too much saltiness in the earlier dish. However, ex post facto, I would still recommend this pesto pasta among the three pasta dishes I had.

Scout's Honor was potentially as impressive as their delight-filled cookies and milk. However, it was sort of pulled down by the lackluster pasta dishes. Despite this, I still recommend the restaurant and suggest you to try the burgers and the buttermilk chicken. Of course, top it all off by indulging yourself with their sweet treats. After all, cookies and milk are what made them famous.
