One Pot's Unlimited Beef and Pork Shabu-Shabu
Want to have a semi-unlimited hotpot session but don't have the patience to queue up? Well, there's this new hotpot place called One Pot in Shore Residences near the vicinity of Mall of Asia. Let's check it out!
I was looking for a restaurant to explore in Metro Deal (since I was feeling a bit stingy), and I suddenly stumbled upon this place called One Pot, an authentic Chinese hotpot restaurant in Shore Residences. At P439 (instead of P688), the voucher provides unlimited pork and beef hotpot (with 1-2 serving of other hotpot essentials such as the balls and all). Since having hotpot alone doesn't sound very thrilling, I decided to buy for the family.
Initially, I thought One Pot was only a few walks away from Mall of Asia, but apparently it was not. In fact, if you will be coming from MoA, you may still need to take a jeepney to reach this place. Of course, no one will be stopping you if you want to walk it out, but it will probably take 15-20 minutes. Once you reach Shore Residences, take the left wing. You'll find One Pot among other Chinese restaurants all lined up together. Noticeably, there are several Chinese expats residing in the said building (and even around the area), which explains the rise of such authentic restaurants.
We visited the restaurant on a Sunday at around 6:30 PM as walk-in. Again, no lines, no hassle, and we were immediately asked to be seated. I inquired whether they accept table reservations, and they do. Hence, I highly suggest that you still reserve a table just to be 100% sure.
...there is a vibrant energy which is conducive for a great dining experience.
The interior of One Pot has a strong modern touch layered on traditional elements of a Chinese restaurant. There are hints of red in the color palate, paired with wooden elements to bring the homey/family feel which is also a signature and significant element of Chinese dining. To further keep things interesting, there are paintings on the wall, murals of some sort. Overall, there is a vibrant energy which is conducive for a great dining experience.
Now, let's go into the details of the hotpot experience.
For the initial broth of the hotpot you can select among a 3-4 choices. They have the regular beef broth, Szechuan broth (if you are into spicy) and chicken broth, if I remember it correctly. Succeeding refills will just be the regular broth, though we didn’t attempt to ask the server if we can still have a different broth for refills. Hence, you may want to try asking.
Since there were 5 of us who availed the voucher, we were entitled to 2 meatball platters containing beef meatball, cheeseball and sea urchin pouch. A number less than 5 will only entitle you to a 1 platter of the balls. Take note that this is not unlimited, and hence you’ll need to pay extra if you want more of these hotpot essentials.
Fret not because if you are a huge fan of pork belly and fatty beef, you’ll have it your way because you can get unlimited refills (provided you avail the promo or voucher). This is the only thing unlimited about the promo, which is why I coin it as a semi-unlimited hotpot session.
Quality of the meat was sufficient, although they have the tendency to be fattier for each succeeding refill, but I completely understand that this is how business works for most unli-meat promos.
Anyway, once your broth has sufficiently boiled, you can move on to the next part of adding seasoning/sauces. They have a seasoning section near the entrance where you can find a handful of sauces and other condiments such as chopped chili, garlic, sesame oil and etc.
You can add the seasoning in two ways – (1) directly into the pot, or (2) separately in your own bowl. We opted adding it separately so all of us will have the liberty to customize our soup. Of course, since we created our own soup, we ought to love them (which we genuinely did).
One of the exciting features of the hot pot equipment of One Pot is the ability to lift up all the meat, noodles and balls you poured into the pot. This makes it very easy to handpick your favorites and to make sure you've consume them all.
All of us had a great time with the hot pot, and it definitely warmed our hearts.
One Pot - Overall Ratings and Summary
Note: Unshaded stars are equivalents of half-stars. The ratings reflect my personal experiences on the times I dine here.
Ambiance: | ★★★★★ |
Taste: | ★★★★ |
Service: | ★★★★★ |
Price/Value: | ★★★★ |
Budget: | at least P688 each for an unlimited pork and beef shabu-shabu experience |
The overall experience here in One Pot was notable, although may not necessarily be exemplary. The non-inclusion of the balls as part of the unlimited refill is a bit of a miss, especially that I consider them as hotpot essentials. However, I do commend the friendliness of the servers and their speed. The interior also is a plus which gives the hotpot experience a more authentic feel.
There’s a possibility that I’ll return, especially that the price is reasonable (under Metro Deal) and there is the convenience of not needing to wait in line.
