Tokyo Tonteki - Unlimited Rice, Miso Soup and Cabbage!
We've been wanting to try Tokyo Tonteki in Greenbelt 5 long before, but we often ended up in other restaurants. However, this time, the universe gave us a message telling us to check out the restaurant. This message came in this form "Company of the month: SGV & Co."
There was some hesitations, but we decided to go for it anyway.
Comfortably casual and fun
Tokyo Tonteki's interior features a casual yet modern look that we found suitable for some comfort dining. There aren't much elements that may suggest that this is a Japanese restaurant except for the food displays near the entrance, but that wasn't a problem.
The photo above shows another angle of Tokyo Tonteki's interior, and from this perspective, the place looks really fancily simple.
The Food
Since SGV was, at that time, the company of the month, we were entitled to a free appetizer.
Stir Fried Japanese Mushrooms || P250
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to give this a try because I was too busy taking photos of the food while my friends were too busy munching on this. Hence, I didn't get to try any, but anyway, since that's how I care for them, I didn't mind. *wink wink*
Chicken Karaage Set
Karaage set that features the tender, moist, boneless Japanese flavor infused breaded chicken chunks fried to a golden brown crisp
There was nothing too much different with this chicken karaage, but I found it slightly beyond decent due to its satisfying quality.
Ginger-Flavored Pork Loin Steak Set (200-250g) || P385
This ginger-flavored pork had this interesting mix of flavors; however, there were times I found it bland and plain.
Mini Chopped Tonteki Set (150g) || P295
When this dish was served, I raised an eyebrow because all I was seeing was the chunks of fat laying on top, and because of this I failed to maximally enjoy this dish. I felt like I was tricked by its masked "affordability".
In fact, I recommend the Large Tonteki Set because it gives you the proper value of your money.
Large Tonteki Set (300-350g) || P460
This Large Tonteki Set was perhaps the only dish I really got to enjoy here in Tokyo Tonteki. The sauce had this wonderful savory tang that really delighted my palate, and because this had a generous serving size, I'm giving this a thumbs up. In fact, if I'll be returning back here in this restaurant, I'll be ordering this one.
By the way, I want to thank my great friend Troy for subsidizing our lunch as his birthday treat! *hehe* Happy birthday Troy!
Eating out is always made more exciting and delightful with a set of great friends, so make sure to have your friends tag along when you dine out!

Overall, I found Tokyo Tonteki pretty much decent, but I can't help but think that the only dish that deserves much attention in this restaurant is its Tonteki. Other dishes were either just so-so or good. However, despite this, I'm still giving this my recommendation for you to try all because of the amazing experience I had with the Large Tonteki Set.
Additional entry - August 8, 2017
The quality of the dishes became consistently good, and the chicken karage became very interesting as well. Right now, if you want to be sure about your dining experience, either go for the tonteki or the karaage.
