Joyhing's Best Asado in Wan Chai, Hong Kong

We learned about Joyhing via a recommendation of friend. He found out that we were staying in Wan Chai, so he told us about this restaurant that serves possibly the best asado he ever tasted. We got all thrilled with this, so we gave it a go.

Joyhing's Best Asado in Wan Chai, Hong Kong

We were anxious about the price, given that this friend is known to be a "burgis". Still, we really wanted to try it, considering the fact that we were running on fast food for the entire day in Hong Kong. (Yeah, we were really going for the budget.).

Interior in Joyhing, Hong Kong

Simplistic interior -- typically Hong Kong
The place has this traditional feel with the relatively small and cramp interior, but this somehow added to its appeal. Thankfully, the air-conditioning unit was fully functional, so it was more than enough to keep us comfortable against the strong heat outside.

I couldn't comment much on the menu, since they seem to have no English menu. The server only mentioned three dishes to us (probably these are the best-sellers), the pork, chicken and duck barbecue, or what we may commonly know here in the Philippines as "asado".

For the night, we were able to try both the chicken and the pork.

Pork asado of Joyhing, Wan Chai, Hong Kong

The Pork Asado (30 HKD or approx P200) was probably the best I had indeed. It had this authentic savory "roasted" flavor that seeped into the meat fibers. The honey-like sauce brings more glory to the dish with its dash of sweetness. Two-thumbs up!

Chicken asado of Joyhing, Wan Chai, Hong Kong

The Chiken Asado (30 HKD or approx P200) was similar to a Hainanese-style chicken. The meat was tender and had this mild to balanced roasted taste. Plus, the sauce did the same magic to this dish.

Joy Hing is definitely a place of joy especially with its exquisite asado. There may be some sort of language barrier, but the servers seem friendly enough to create a conducive dining atmosphere. The prices of the dishes are also within the reasonable range. Hence, it was truly an fantastic overall experience!
