Hainanese Delights - An Affordable Singaporean Casual Restaurant

Once a restaurant that I kept on ignoring, Hainanese Delights proved that it is worthy to be tried! Let me share with you my insights!

Update on July 22, 2014 - Blog Post Additions
I got the chance to dine here in this restaurant once more this July of 2014; hence, I decided to add more photos and write-ups on this one. With this experience, I began to notice some changes (not-so-good ones) especially on the service (including the friendliness of the staff).

The Place Although I don't find pink very attractive especially as component of interior highlights and design, the place fine. Frankly, it was just plain and uninviting based on my personal taste (because of it wasn't I should have tried it long before). However, setting that aside, Hainanese Delights looks pleasing enough in general.

The Food If you check out the menu (which I attached at the end of this blog post), you will notice that the prices are budget-friendly. Anyway, let's check out some of the dishes!

Note: Hainanese Delights is offering Unlimited Rice and Free Broth Soup

Chap Chae || P90

This Korean-Hainanese infusion brings the same goodness traditional Korean Japchae but with a twist.

Pork Dumpling || P110
10 pieces of pure pork dumplings; you may opt for the steam or fried ones

This pork dumpling may not be the be the best you'll ever have, but it is definitely good and affordable enough! In case you are on a budget, or eating only by yourself, you may want to go for this:

All for Kutchay Rice Meal || P100

This one features Pork Dumplings mixed with some kutchay veggies, so if you like the taste of greens in your dumplings, you should try this one.

Take the Cake || P90
Crunchy radish cake with a little kick of spice

The Radish Cake caught me off guard with its crunchy spicy taste. Flavored by salt, pepper, chili and other spices, the radish will bring delight to your palate!

Tofu with Mixed Vegetables || P80

I wouldn't say that this tofu dish is mediocre because it was a little above satisfactory! Plus, considering the price, this dish will not make you feel like a loser.

Whole Chicken Delights || P350
Choice of steamed or fried (I suggest you take the steamed one)

Drenched in a subtly sweet and savory sauce, the steamed chicken offers a taste that goes far from the same old boring one we usually have (i.e. fried food and dishes). Plus, you can mix up your own additional sauce for this (e.g. ginger, chili sauce, soy sauce or a combination)

Just in case you are going by yourself, you may want to go for the Hainanese Delights Meal or the Hainan Fried Chicken.

Hainanese Delights Rice Meal || P139

This meal is definitely good enough for me because of the huge serving of the chicken. Plus, like I mentioned above, this meal comes with unlimited rice, as well as the Hainan Fried Chicken Meal below.

When we speak of fried chicken, what comes into my mind is something crispy that comes with a gravy. However, here in this restaurant, they have a different concept of a fried chicken. Yes, they fry the chicken, but they drench it with the similar sauce they use of the steamed chicken. As a result, both of them seem to have an almost similar taste.

All in all, I appreciated the dishes offered by Hainanese Delights.

Admittedly, it was far from being the best. However, if you just want something affordable yet a little out of the ordinary, then Hainanese Delights may be great for you! For good adventure seekers, you may not find the thrill here, but it wouldn't hurt trying, would it?

Note: There are a lot of branches already for this store. You may check out the restaurant guides of Zomato to look for something near you. Oh by the way, I've tried eating in other branches, and I think I found some issues with the service (i.e. lack of accommodation and friendliness).
